The American Midwest Chamber and Vocal Music Competition is an internationally influential music event organized by the International Chamber and Vocal Music Institute in collaboration with the University of Kansas Chamber and Vocal Music. This competition aims to promote chamber instrumental and vocal arts development, and discover globally competitive musical talents and artists. Dedicated to providing participants with a broader platform for showcasing their skills and learning, the competition also seeks to advance the dissemination and innovation of chamber music and vocal arts on the international stage.


I. Competition Schedule


Application   Deadline: April 14, 2025

First Round Announcement: April 21, 2025

Final Results Announcement: April 28, 2025

II. Competition Rules

This competition focuses on two main categories: vocal music and chamber music, offering a broad range of repertoire options to showcase the artistic characteristics and talents of the participants fully. The competition follows a phased structure, including preliminary rounds and finals. In the first round, participants are required to submit performance videos, which will be reviewed by a professional judging panel, selecting outstanding performers for the next stage. Finalists will submit their final performance pieces, which will be assessed by the judges, and the winners will be determined based on their performances. The competition strives to provide a fair and professional environment for all participants and discover exceptional talents in the field of music.

A. Professional Group

Young Artists A Group:born between April 15, 1992-April 14, 2000   

Young Artists B Group: born between April 15, 2000-April 14, 2005

B. Amateur Group

Youth Senior A Group: born between April 15, 2005-April14, 2008

Youth Senior B Group: born between April 15, 2008-April 14, 2011

Youth Junior A Group: born between April 15, 2011-April 14, 2014

Youth Junior B Group: born between April 15, 2014-April 14, 2018

Senior Adult Group: born between April 15, 1965-April 14, 1974

Middle Age Group:born between April 15, 1974-April 14, 1984

Yound Adult A Group: born between April 15, 1984-April 14, 1990

Young Adult B Group:born between April 15, 1990-April 14, 1995

V. Competition Rules:

i. Vocal: Aria

Participants should select one aria for the first and final rounds, with different languages for each. Perform in the original key andlanguage. Each video should not exceed 10 minutes.


ii. Vocal: Art Song


Participants should select one art song for the first and final rounds, with different languages for each. Each video should not exceed 10 minutes.


iii. Vocal: Musical Theater


Participants should select one musical theater piece for the first and   final rounds. Each video should not exceed 10 minutes.


iv. Chamber Music: Piano Solo


Participants should select one piece or movement for the first and final rounds. Each video should not exceed 15 minutes.


v. Chamber Music: Piano Duo / Four Hands


Participants should select one piece or movement for the first and final rounds. Each video should not exceed 15 minutes.


vi. Chamber Music: String Solo/Ensemble


Participants should select one piece or movement for the first and final rounds. Each video should not exceed 20 minutes.


vii. Chamber Music: Wind Solo/Ensemble


Participants should select one piece or movement for the first and final rounds. Each video should not exceed 20 minutes.


viii. Chamber Music: Composition


Participants should submit one original composition or movement for the first and final rounds. Each video should not exceed 30 minutes.


VI. Awards


i. The First, Second, and Third Prizes for Each Group

ii. Winners in each group will have the opportunity to receive the Masterclass Scholarship and perform on stage alongside the masters.

iii. All winners in the professional group would receive the following rewards:

* 2025-2026 Concert Tour Opportunity

* 2025 Summer "ICVMI Midwest Chamber Music Vocal Arts Festival" Scholarship

* Vocal Winners' Priority Selection for lead roles in the Opera and Musical   Productions at the Festival


VII. Application Fee


To attract more talented musicians and provide them with opportunities to showcase their skills, this competition has introduced a special policy for a free preliminary round.If selected to advance to the final round, a registration fee of 120 US dollars will be required via email.


VIII. Video Recording Requireents

  • Landscape orientation recording


  • For instrumental performers, both hands and faces must be visible in the video.


  • For vocal performers, the full body must be visible, and the face should be clearly shown.

  • Vocal participants are only allowed to use live piano accompaniment or piano audio accompaniment.

  • All participants may apply for multiple competition categories simultaneously.

  • All recordings must be original sound, and no editing or processing is allowed.

  • All competition videos should be uploaded to accessible video websites and submitted via video link.

  • Once the piece is submitted, it cannot be changed.

The final interpretation rights of this competition belong to the official organizers. During the competition, all videos and images of the participants will be owned by the official organizers. Participants' videos may be broadcast on the competition’s official website and various official media platforms.
